WHY DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY IS IMPORTANT
Wood Wizards offer its own Design and Technology (D&T) course as part of the curriculum for the last two years of Primary schools. D&T serves as a gateway to impart essential knowledge and skills in creative design, innovation, and engineering to young individuals.
Children discover the excitement of designing, making, testing and improving. They explore how things work, build simple structure and develop an understand of mechanisms and movement. Along the way, they apply mathematics, develop problem-solving skills, and learn that great ideas often emerge through experimentation.
KEY CONCEPTS
Students use their creativity and imagination to design and make products out of wood that solve problems in a range of contexts. Through hands-on projects, they develop practical skills, learn to take creative risks, and become resourceful, innovative, and confident problem-solvers. By exploring and evaluating inspiring designs, they discover new possibilities, develop their own ideas, and transform their concepts into functional creations.
Assessment
Through the explicit teaching of the Design skills, the pupils assess their learning continuously throughout the lesson. At the end of the unit, pupils use their Masterpiece to reflect on their knowledge and understanding. The Wood Wizards Instructors care about the depth of the students learning and the progress they have made over time.
